Seriously Fun Play for Disc Golf Enthusiasts
Designed by Brian Bjortomt, Montana State Coordinator for the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), the course has tight, technical holes and several open bombers to allow players to air it out. There are two layouts for the Sky Ranch Disc Golf Course – “A” and “B” – that affect 3 holes. These variations will be noted in the following hole descriptions.
LHBH = Left Hand Backhand Throw
LHFH = Left Hand Forehand Throw
Hole 1 — Loon Launch: Par 3. 226′ uphill shot through a wide tunnel that fades slightly for an RHBH shot. There is also a tight RHFH window.
Hole 2 — Hobbit Hill: Par 3. 219′ fairly wide open straight fairway to a guarded green on a hillside.
Hole 3 — Buck Basin: Par 4. 480′ slight dogleg right. The last 120′ is uphill and wooded to a guarded basket.
Hole 4 — Bobcat Alley: Par 3. 212′ downhill straight shot through a tight tunnel.
Hole 5 — Fox Hill: Par 3. 255′ slightly downhill straight shot through a fairly wide tunnel.
Hole 6 — Twin Firs: Par 3. 300′ downhill shot that fades slightly left with a low ceiling just before the green.
Hole 7 — Coyote Junction: Par 3. 258′ slightly uphill shot. Fairly open fairway to a guarded green with a drop-off behind the basket.
Hole 8 — Bear Crossing: Par 3. 237′ tightly wooded slightly left curving hole across a ravine with a downward slope behind the basket.
Hole 9 — Boneyard: “A” – Par 3. 234′ with three routes to the basket. A wide RHFH shot, a tighter, but more direct slight turnover RHBH shot, and a tight RHBH hyzer shot. “B” – Par 4. 428′. From the short basket, there are two tight lines to the “B” basket position – an RHFH and an RHBH. Both of which require precision to navigate the heavily wooded fairway.
Hole 10 — Elk Ridge: “A” – Par 4. 341′ uphill with a wide RHFH shot or a tight straight shot to the landing zone on the hill. From there it’s straight up the hill to the basket which is just into the clearing at the top of the hill. “B” – Par 3. 204′ RHFH shot to the basket at the bottom of the hill.
Hole 11 — Frog Hollow: Par 3. 273′ slightly downhill open tee shot with either an RHBH hyzer or straight alley to a basket tucked into a pocket of trees.
Hole 12 — Rainbow Bend: Par 3. 233′ with two fairly wide tunnel routes- either an RHBH hyzer or RHFH hyzer shot around a group of trees.
Hole 13 — Gremlin Corner: Par 3. 330′ downhill tight tunnel to a basket at the bottom of a gully.
Hole 14 — Holler Hill: “A” Par 3. 552′ wide open downhill shot. “B” – Par 4. 843′ wide open downhill first shot with the basket across the bottom and partially up the opposing hill.
* The fence on the right and the high grass are out of bounds for both placements.
Hole 15 — Balsam Root: Par 3. 221′ straight uphill shot through a narrow gap off the tee and again near the green
Hole 16 — G. Horned Lane: Par 3. 285′ straight downhill shot through a tight gap off the tee to a basket in a clearing at the bottom of the hill.
Hole 17 — Turkey Roost: Par 3. 240′ with either an RHFH flex shot or a big RHBH hyzer shot. N.B. If your disc goes off the steep drop-off on the right, please wait to get your disc until you get to the bottom of the hill on hole 18 to prevent erosion on the hillside.
Hole 18 — Osprey Landing: Par 3. 411′ “top of the world” type shot from a tee on a ridge playing through a gap off the tee to a basket in the open meadow at the bottom of the hill. Unload your bag on this one!
